OPPORTUNITIES FOR ORGANIC CHEMICALS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

31 January 2007
Author:
Naoki Obi

Abstract:
New technologies such as organic light-emitting diodes (‘OLED’), solar cells and electric circuits (created using conducting polymer) are chosen not only because chemicals play an important role, but also because the products and technologies are closely interrelated. Although silicon technology continues to improve, it is not clear how much further it can improve. There is a possibility that new technologies such as plastic electronics could replace some part of the silicon technology, or create a new market that would demonstrate future added value compared with silicon technology.
